Derogitory term for a country person derived from the word ‘culture’. Traditionally anyone from outside ‘the pale’ (a fortification built by the Vikings in ancient times to protect the civilised city-folk from the native Gaels) -therefore versed in the Gaelic culture. In modern parlance, anyone from a rural, esp. agricultural background. Also: Mulchie, Mullah, Muldoon, Redneck, Bog-trotter, Bog-warrior, sh*t-kicker.
