56 Bennett Ave. # 6 I Grigoriy Starikovskiy - Russian poet, translator. Born in Moscow in 1971. From 1992 resides in New York where he earned his Ph.D. in Classics (Columbia University). S. teaches high school Latin and occasional college courses in Classics and Western Civilization. S. translates verse and prose into his native Russian, primarily from English, occasionally from Latin, German and French. Among translated authors: John Donne (English and Latin verse), Edward Thomas (verse), Louis Aragon (verse), Vladimir Nabokov (letters), Louise Gluck (verse). Contemporary Irish poetry is S.'s long-abiding interest. In recent years, S. translated verse by Samuel Beckett, Michael Longley, Derek Mahon, and Eamon Grennan. S. is currently translating poems by Patrick Kavanagh.
